Safe Haven - Aviation Safety

Together for Safety

A programme for pilots and air traffic controllers

Concerned about your health or medical certificate?

Safe Haven is a new, separate way for pilots and air traffic controllers to report on and manage their health. Designed by the CAA, NZALPA, and a specially created Safe Haven Board, the programme allows participants to raise potential health concerns with a selected medical examiner, without the normal obligations for disclosure to the CAA – giving you more control over the process while building trust in the reporting system.

Through specially trained Medical Examiners Safe Haven (MESHs), you can have a confidential, no-obligation discussion about your concerns. MESHs will help you maintain your flying or operational privileges where safe to do so, and work with you to navigate the CAA medical system. Safe Haven even covers most costs associated with simpler cases.
